The Environmental Health & Safety Specialist is responsible ensuring all associates at our Indianapolis, Indiana manufacturing facility can safely help us achieve our mission and vision in scientific research, and medicine.

This position reports to the EHS&S Manager, dotted to the Plant Director, and is part of the Environmental Health & Safety Team located in Indianapolis, IN and will be an on-site role.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Coach and serve as an EHS mentor for the site-level associates and be the point of contact for Environmental and Safety calls and supporting the EHS&S Manager.

  • Coordinate deployment of safety/environmental processes to maintain compliance of all legal, corporate policy, procedures and initiatives; research new or existing laws, rules, and regulations and make recommendations regarding appropriate actions.

  • Participate in daily management of EHS activities across the site such as audits, monthly meetings, and publishing/posting of metrics. Champion efforts to drive improvements and ensure sustainment.

  • Provide support and leadership in the coordination and management of the safety incident management system to include facilitating incident investigation process, conducting accident investigations and implementing corrective actions.

  • Lead and deliver training to ensure compliance and build functional competency; including new hire orientation, ad hoc, etc.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Safety, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, or related field with 5+ years of experience in EHS area.
  • Strong working knowledge of federal/state/local environmental regulations and policies to include OSHA, EPA etc.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills utilizing data and business insights to drive tangible results in the environmental and safety space.
  • Established communication and presentation skills for training, and working with associates in driving site based EHS programs/projects.
  • Proven skills in driving tasks to completion with strong attention to detail.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Experience driving projects using lean and six sigma tools for problem-solving, daily management, and Kaizen events.
  • FDA regulated industry or medical device manufacturing experience
