These experienced professionals provide administrative expertise, facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and a broad array of other professional skills that support the National Park Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP).Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an ?at-will? relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee.PLEASE NOTE: An ?Enrollee? is not a federal employee, nor an employee of NEW Solutions. An ?Enrollee? is a participant in a grant program established through a Cooperative Agreement funded by the agency and administered by NEW Solutions.This opportunity applies to applicants legally eligible to work in the United States.DurationThis position is funded for an average of 16 hours per week for up to 97 total hours.LocationThis position supports Historic Preservation Training Center and is a hybrid position.Qualifications:Minimum of 20 year(s) of experience in Stone Masonry/Carving The member has equivalent study in Stone Carving and Stone Masonry to include other trade crafts required to perform work on the highest degree of complexity and quality OR MA/MS Degree in The member has equivalent study in Stone Carving and Stone Masonry to include other trade crafts required to perform work on the highest degree of complexity and quality with minimum additional experience of 20 year(s) in Masonry OR Previously completed training in stone carving and stone repairComprehensive knowledge of mixing techniques, and applications for preparing compatible mortar formulations. Extensive skills in cutting and shaping block, terra cotta, brick and stone. Ability to remove portions of walls, partitions or other similar structures and repair in-kind Ability to make masonry openings for the installation of doors and windows. Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and specifications and independently determine the required/desired layout and work sequences. Comprehensive knowledge of concrete, terra cotta block, and stucco surfaces, including mixing techniques, applications, etc. Ability to patch and/or replace stucco, including paper, wire, scratch and brown coats, to match existing historic surface. Knowledge of and ability to use common hand and power tools associated with masonry, construction and building trades work. Comprehensive knowledge of traditional tools and materials used by craftsmen in construction of various historic buildings and structures. Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations/procedures and various code requirements applicable to construction and building trades.Duties:Enrollee will be working on HPTC preservation projects that require a high degree of masonry experience as well as stone carving experience. Enrollee will be subject matter expert in this role.The individual will be responsible to work independently and provide direction to others by providing highest level trades skills to include stone carving and dutchman repairs of monumental and other architectural stone carving. They are required to accomplish the work in accordance with appropriate trade methods and accepted practices, and in conformance with NPS cultural resource guidelines.100%Other:Travel Requirements: Travel to project sites with projects ranging from 2 weeks to 2 months.Overnight travel: Travel to project sites with projects ranging from 2 weeks to 2 months.Air travel anticipated: Depending on project location, air travel may be required.Health and Safety Considerations: The enrollee is required to work off the ground on ladders, scaffolds, and on the structural framework of buildings. Some work will be completed in aerial man-lifts.Required Safety Gear: Personal protective equipment including but not limited to hard hats, safety toed boots, gloves, goggles, fall protection harness, and a variety of respirator types.Physical requirements: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position. The physical effort required is considered heavy to moderate. Work requires regular and continuous operation and surveillance of shop functions and work in the field. The work requires considerable physical exertion related to actions such as recurring lifting, pushing, pulling or carrying of objects over 50 lbs and of various sizes and shapes. The enrollee must frequently stand while working, climb ladders, work from scaffolding or platforms more than 30 feet above the ground, and crawl beneath buildings. The work requires continuous physical effort and regularly requires the enrollee to work overhead or in awkward, stretched, or uncomfortable positions. He/she is required to perform work in all manners of environmental conditions such as snow, rain, mud, and heat. Backcountry work may require the enrollee to travel to remote job sites by foot over rough terrain. Work involves potentially hazardous proximity to power tools and heavy construction equipment such as trucks, cranes, tractors and earthmoving equipment.
