CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

The Speech Language Pathologist and Clinical Educator will play a critical role in the supervision of the clinical education of speech-language pathology students within the in-house Speech, Language, Hearing Clinic at UD and will teach classes within the academic side of the MA-SLP clinical program (2 courses per year in area of specialty).

Under the direction of the Clinic Director and the Chair of the top-ranked Communication Sciences and Disorders program, the Speech-Language Pathologist and Clinical Educator provides mentorship and supervision to student clinicians, educates students in the classroom, and works directly with a strong team of faculty and staff colleagues to disseminate cutting-edge treatment approaches and theory to students. Ideal candidates excel in both instruction and supervision.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Performs academic, clinical, and administrative responsibilities consistent with the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA), federal/state regulations, practice setting requirements, and institutional policy.
  • Provides high-quality services to a diverse range of patients/clients with significant student involvement.
  • Supervises graduate students in clinical activities and services in the SLHC and community.
  • Teaches courses that are consistent with candidate’s area(s) of expertise.
  • Collaborates with academic and clinical faculty/staff to promote, coordinate, plan, and provide opportunities using effective instructional methodologies and technologies.
  • Partners with research faculty to design and implement translational research.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders within and outside of the University of Delaware community to create, plan, and implement interprofessional education opportunities.
  • Participates in service opportunities with the Department, University, and community at large.
  • Supports clinical and administrative objectives of the SLHC.
  • Maintains a current and working knowledge of developing practice trends and provides effective instruction within these areas.
  • Represents the Communication Sciences and Disorders program at community, state, regional, and national events, and helps to educate the University and larger communities regarding the profession of Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Aligns with the strategic goals and objectives of CSCD and the SLHC, as well as the overarching goals and objectives of the University.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties and tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology and four years of clinical service, clinical student supervision, and clinical coordination experience.  PhD in Communication Sciences and Disorders or related discipline preferred.
  • Certification as a Speech-Language-Pathologist through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Speech-Language-Pathologist in the state of Delaware.
  • Effective communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving, and counseling skills.
  • Team-based, interprofessional practice and instructional skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and recognize innovative ideas and opportunities.
  • Knowledge of educational, management, and adult learning theory and principles.
  • Collaborative approach with the ability to work effectively with a diverse community.
  • Applies knowledge, best practices, policies and procedures to instructional and clinical service opportunities.
  • Ability to plan, develop, direct, implement and evaluate strategic communication plans, programs and activities applicable to a research-centered institution of higher education.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current issues and trends applicable to higher education institutions.
  • Experience with supervision of students and in teaching at the university level preferred.
  • Specialty Board Certification preferred.
  • Experience in treating both adults and children preferred.
  • Computer skills to include word processing, email, PowerPoint, Excel, and preferably database and electronic medical records management systems experience preferred.
