Position Highlights:  

World languages at Naples Classical Academy gives scholars their first experience with new language learning in the Western tradition. With the introduction of a new language, scholars begin to wonder through stories, poems, songs, and the written and spoken word. Scholars learn the foundations of the Spanish language, which they will carry with them into the upper levels of their schooling and beyond. 

The Spanish teacher is responsible for using the school’s curricular resources to write appropriately-leveled lessons for various grades. A good candidate should have strong facility with the language (native speaker preferred), and be able to lead the scholars with the firmness and/or gentleness that is appropriate to their age and skill level. The NCA Spanish teacher is encouraged to provide highly engaging lessons that build year-over-year and instill a desire in students to continue their pursuit toward mastery of the language.

Primary duties and responsibilities include:

  • Teaches skills in Spanish language instruction to students

  • Interact with scholars to encourage engagement in learning activities

  • Prepare a safe/orderly environment that permits growth and exploration

  • Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy through Hillsdale College curriculum model

  • Provides learning experiences which develop the basic communication skills, utilizing electronic equipment as appropriate

  • Develops student understanding and appreciation of Spanish-speaking cultures in various countries where the studied language is spoken

  • Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to classical education and the vision, mission, and philosophy of the school and consistently develop, foster, and advance these principles in students 

  • Develop and maintain a climate and culture of wonder, openness, justice, and mutual respect while modeling and reinforcing good judgment, prudence, virtue, self-discipline, and responsibility

  • Engage every student in grade level-appropriate learning promoting intellectual and moral development, collaborate with ESE to implement IEPs

  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, leadership and community members

  • Manage the classroom primarily through the use of established routines and procedures to maintain a strong culture devoted to learning 

  • Manage student misconduct promptly and resolve conflict and crises effectively 

  • Maintain a professional development plan and engage in professional development activities 

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree from accredited college or university (or graduating with a degree before the start of the new school year.) 

  • Knowledge and experience in teaching Spanish to students

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four-Year degree from an accredited university, in Spanish education

  • 3-5 years of experience in teaching the Spanish language (K-12)

  • Possession of a Florida Educator Certification in corresponding subject area or Statement of Status of Eligibility showing eligible status in such subject area or desire to do so within 2 years of employment (NCA can provide information on obtaining the necessary cert for eligible candidates.)
