The Access Management Engineering Team

The Okta Access Management Team builds the foundation for authentication and authorization across Okta-protected resources. Our mission is to enable customers to access these resources securely. We develop Okta cloud services and client software that allow users to seamlessly log in to devices and use Okta authenticators to access applications securely. Multiple opportunities are available for engineers within Access Management. Our team is fast-growing and impactful at Okta. The Software Engineer Opportunity

We seek a dynamic Software Engineer to join our Device Authenticators engineering team. The ideal candidate should have solid experience in software development and be enthusiastic about writing Linux client software. The role gives the candidate an excellent opportunity to learn about interesting problems in the security and identity space. It also has a lot of visibility within Okta and has exceptional growth potential.

You will share our passion and pride in elegant solutions and join an engineering team that strongly believes in designing for scale, rigorous code reviews, automated testing, and an iterative process to build high-quality enterprise software. You will demonstrate a great aptitude for software engineering excellence and are not afraid to be a player-coach.

What you’ll be doing 

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (QA, Product, Support, UX) for seamless integration.
• Gather and refine requirements with Product and Engineering teams for prototyping Linux client components.
• Following best practices, contribute to technical designs, proposals, and architectural decisions.
• Develop high-quality, maintainable software components with comprehensive unit/functional tests.
• Participate in code reviews, providing feedback and ensuring adherence to coding standards and security best practices.
• Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge sharing within the team.

What you’ll bring to the role

• 3-5 years of software development experience, with at least 3 years of experience designing and building enterprise software on Linux.
• Good understanding of design patterns, scalability patterns, security engineering, and object-oriented principles.
• Strong hands-on experience in Rust / C++ / C# on Linux, with a proven ability to leverage their features for robust and maintainable codebases.
• Cross-platform development with the .NET platform is desirable.
• Skilled in debugging and troubleshooting Linux desktop applications using tools like Visual Studio Debugger, profilers, or other platform-specific debuggers.
• Experience working in fast-paced software development teams leveraging continuous integration and deployment practices.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work across functions.

And extra credit if you have experience in any of the following! 

• Understanding of Identity and Access Management protocols and technologies (FIDO, U2F, WebAuthn, SSO, SAML, OAuth, Federation, etc.)
• Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, secure coding practices, and certifications like CISSP or Security+.
• Experience with IPC mechanisms (COM, Pipes, RPC, Sockets) and kernel debugging.
• Proficiency in Windows UI frameworks like WPF and XAML for desktop apps (or frameworks such as Avalonia UI).

Below is the annual base salary range for candidates located in California (excluding San Francisco Bay Area), Colorado, Illinois, New York and Washington. Your actual base salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies. The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in California (excluding San Francisco Bay Area), Colorado, Illinois, New York, and Washington is between: $142,000—$214,000 USD
