Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Accounting Administrator I (Supervisor), the Senior Accounting Officer (Specialist) independently performs complex accounting duties, primarily focused on reconciling and resolving outstanding billings related to the Intermediate Care Facility-Developmentally Disabled (ICF-DD) Homes.  The incumbent is responsible for carrying out professional accounting responsibilities in accordance with Accounting Section guidelines, State Administrative Manual (SAM), Uniform Codes Manual (UCM), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), State Controller’s Office (SCO) policies, and State and Federal laws.  

Effective July 1, 2025, State employees are subject to a salary reduction of three percent in exchange for five hours per month of the Personal Leave.

Working Conditions

Under Government Code 14200, this position is a hybrid, in-office/telework position, and may be subject to change. Incumbent can be required to report to the office, or any designated location at any time. Telework agreements can be modified and/or cancelled at any time. Incumbent must live and work in California.  All commute expenses to the reporting location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

This position requires lawful authorization to work in the United States. The Department does not sponsor employment visas for this position.

Open-spaced partitioned office.  Computer will be use daily up to70% of the time on the FI$Cal Accounting System and various software applications (i.e., Microsoft Excel and Word).  Must be able to use various office machines: computer, copier, scanner, etc.  During peak times including year-end processing, request for leave will be limited and approved on a case-by-case basis. Work pre-approved overtime when necessary to meet deadlines.

Knowledge of: State Accounting principles and practices, and GAAP principles. Outstanding analytical skills.  Excellent communication skills. Understanding of the entire State accounting procedure and processes.

Ability to: Take initiative and work independently.  Ability to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments.  Ability to promote positive work environment and relationship with others.  Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and may require excess hours to be worked.
