Job Summary:

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Radiology, part of the prestigious UW-Madison Schol of Medicine and Public Health is excited to announce an opening for a Radiology Technologist Assistant. This role is integral to supporting cutting-edge research, translational, and clinical patient care services at the renowned Wisconsin Institutes for Medical Research (WIMR). This position plays a crucial role in assisting radiology technologists and ensuring smooth operations within the University of Wisconsin Madison Department of Radiology.

Core Responsibilities:
1. Patient Preparation: Assist patients in getting ready for imaging procedures by explaining the process, addressing their concerns, and ensuring they are comfortable and properly positioned.
2. Equipment Management: Set up, maintain, and clean radiology equipment, ensuring everything is in working order for imaging procedures.
3. Administrative Tasks: Handle clerical duties such as scheduling appointments, maintaining patient records, and managing inventory of supplies.
4. Assisting with Procedures: Support technologists during imaging procedures by helping with patient positioning and ensuring image quality.
5. Ensuring Safety: Follow radiation safety protocols to protect patients, staff, and themselves from unnecessary radiation exposure. Monitor patients during procedures to ensure their safety and well-being.
6. Patient Care: Provide compassionate care to patients, especially those who may be anxious or uncomfortable during procedures. Assist patients in navigating medical facility.

Responsibilities:

Collects vital signs, patient history, and specimens; and performs basic laboratory tests and administers injections and medications under supervising clinician direction to ensure the proper care of patients. Prepares examination rooms and equipment and performs administrative duties. Works collaboratively with other medical staff.

• 5% Performs routine vital signs, basic tests, assists with minor procedures, and administers medications as directed by a supervising clinician
• 5% Collects, prepares, and delivers specimens for laboratory analysis
• 20% Prepares and cleans examination rooms, instruments, and equipment for specific procedures
• 20% Escorts patients to various hospital locations and delivers, orders, and inventories general clinic supplies
• 30% Performs administrative duties such as scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, assisting patients with billing, and coding information and answering basic medical questions
• 20% Patient communication: Educate patients about scheduled procedures, and follow-up instructions. Screen patients for potential safety concerns. Provide excellent customer service and maintain compassionate professional patient care.

Education:

Required
H.S. Diploma

Qualifications:

Required
- At least 2 years of customer service, administrative, healthcare, and/or relevant professional experience.
- BLS/CPR certification within 3 months of start date required.

Preferred
- Experience working within a healthcare setting.

The ideal candidate will possess the following: a basic knowledge of medical terminology, strong communication skills, ability to work collaboratively with patients and healthcare teams, ability to multitask in a healthcare environment, and basic computer skills.

Work Schedule:

Anticipated hours will be 8:00am-4:30pm or 7:30am-4:00pm, depending on staffing needs. Shifts may be modified as agreed upon by employee and supervisor.

Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 80% - 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Minimum $24.00 HOURLY

The starting salary for the position is $24.00 per hour, but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Additional Information:

The department will not be able to support a request for a J-1 waiver. If you choose to pursue a waiver and apply for our position, neither the UW nor UWMF will reimburse you for your legal or waiver fees.

University sponsorship is not available for this position, including transfers of sponsorship. The selected applicant will be responsible for ensuring their continuous eligibility to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the United States, a lawful permanent resident, a foreign national authorized to work in the United States without the need of an employer sponsorship) on or before the effective date of appointment. This position is an ongoing position that will require continuous work eligibility.

This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.
