SUMMARY
Operates out of City of Charlotte Radio Shop. Maintains radio network infrastructure that includes 27 RF tower sites and dispatch consoles at 29 communication centers. Operates autonomously throughout the day and participates in weekly on-call rotation.

Summary
Responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing radio communication systems, supporting end users, and setting up and using test measurement and diagnostic equipment. This position is on-call as needed to respond to service-impacting conditions.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains the radio network, including radio tower sites.
- Works with customers to support infrastructure needs and issues.
- Manages and supervises on site vendors.
- Maintains dispatch center assets, network domain server, and security.
- Programs and troubleshoots network routers and switches. Maintains and troubleshoots radio base stations.
- Performs preventative maintenance on radio transmitters and receivers.
- Provides documentation of sites and equipment.
- Sets up, installs, tests, and upgrades systems.
- Work requires the occasional direction of radio system specialists, radio system technicians, helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, or temporary employees.
- Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities - English grammar, spelling, and punctuation
- Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment
- Meet schedules and deadlines of the work
- P25 trunking system familiarity
- Microwave radio functionality
- Routers, switches, and firewalls
- Radio spectrum equipment
- Route new LAN or WAN paths
Minimum Qualifications - High school graduate or equivalent
- Three (3) or more years of experience in public safety, networking, and mobile communications
- Must have valid U.S. driver's license
- Six (6) months minimum as a Radio System Specialist with the City of Charlotte
- Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
