Job Description

The role

We’re looking for an inspiring and strategic Project Manager to play a key role in delivering our ambitious Reparative Futures Programme — a bold, long-term commitment to racial justice and equity at the University of Bristol.

By 2034 , this programme will have built valuable and sustainable partnerships with people of African descent, dismantling barriers to racial equity within university structures and systems. Together, we will take meaningful steps to repair, rebuild, and transform — creating an organisation with a truly inclusive culture and zero tolerance for anti-Black racism .

Our vision? A welcoming, just, and equitable university experience — with reparatory practices deeply embedded in education, research, and civic partnerships. We’re working to make the University of Bristol a place of choice, pride, and success for students, staff, alumni, and communities, regardless of race .

We welcome applications from all candidates and particularly encourage individuals of African descent and those with lived experience of anti-Black racism to apply. We are building a team that reflects the communities we work with, and your leadership, insight and expertise are vital to shaping an inclusive and equitable future at the University of Bristol.

Please note: This role is offered at 0.8 FTE (28 hours per week). However, for the right candidate, we are happy to consider applications from those wishing to work between 21 and 35 hours per week. We also welcome job share applications for this position. In addition, hybrid working is available. The number of days on campus, and which specific days, will be discussed and agreed upon once the full team is appointed.

What will you be doing?

Role

As Project Manager, you’ll play a key role in driving forward an ambitious action plan , while shaping the long-term future of the programme. You’ll be:

  • Working with the academic leadership (APVC & AD) of Reparative Futures, to shape and lead the programme.
  • Establishing, delivering and monitoring a variety of impactful projects and initiatives.
  • Using documented feedback to shape project deliverables that meet real needs.
  • Working to an annual cycle of activities, delivering on approved plans while also designing and evolving future strategies.
  • Collaborating with the Partnerships Manager, as well as staff, students, and community partners, to ensure project briefs are co-created and aligned with our bold vision.
  • Managing and leading the delivery of these initiatives from start to finish, ensuring alignment with the overall mission of reparative justice.
  • Comfortable with challenging the status quo and proposing creative ways to do things differently.

You should apply if

  • Has proven experience managing multiple small- to medium-scale projects simultaneously balancing the needs of different audiences, priorities, and timelines with confidence.
  • Thrives in environments with high levels of ambiguity, using sound judgment and collaboration to navigate complexity and deliver meaningful outcomes, even without a clear roadmap.
  • Brings excellent listening and communication skills, with a natural ability to build trust and foster collaboration across a wide range of people and perspectives.
  • Is genuinely passionate about reparative justice and committed to contributing to real, long-term change through inclusive, community-focused work.

For a full view of the requirements and responsibilities for this role, please refer to the attached job description .

Please note: The role will be working under the direction of the Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor Reparative & Civic Futures (APVC) and Academic Director Reparative Futures (AD), and reporting to the divisional Deputy Director of Civic Engagement, with additional professional guidance available from the Associate Director of Strategic Programmes and Projects.

For informal enquiries, please email our Reparative Futures mailbox: reparative-futures@bristol.ac.uk.

Please note: The selection process for this role may consist of two stages:

  • An initial pre-screening call to assess your suitability and clarify any points from your application.
  • A formal interview for shortlisted candidates with a separate Focus Group.

Contract type: Open-ended

Work pattern: Part time / 28 hours per week (0.8 FTE).

Grade: K

Salary: £49,559- £55,755 per annum (pro-rata for part time).
