Job Description

Director Strategic Planning & Business Development Location Richmond, VA : The Director of Strategic Planning and Business Development, under the direction of the AVP of Strategic Planning & Business Development, will identify, develop, facilitate, and execute growth strategies, cultivate business planning, and lead market, business and financial analysis for key decision-making within the organization. The Director of Strategic Planning and Business Development builds partnerships across the organization to improve access to information and develop analytic support for insightful and critical decision making for enterprise strategy. This position directs cross-functional teams of various healthcare providers and partners through strategic thinking processes to identify key areas of opportunity. The Director of Strategic Planning and Business Development develops tools and provides oversight for data aggregation and complex analysis in service of VCU Health System's enterprise strategy. The Director will build, deploy, maintain and train others in tools to harness complex data and develop complex methodologies and models to assist with growth opportunity assessments, impact assessments, support pro formas and financial modeling, data validation and business case development to support growth partnerships and capital investments. The Director of Strategic Planning and Business Development coordinates analytical efforts to enhance strategic conversations and understanding in support of the vision and goals of VCU Health. This position will train and manage direct reports in analytical tool use and production. The Director of Strategic Planning and Business Development partners with various business and clinical leads to access market tools to mine opportunities for strategic development, to include service line leadership and certificate of need support. This position develops and delivers presentations, both written and oral, to facilitate strategic conversations and build relationships. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: N/A Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: N/A Experience REQUIRED: Minimum of seven (7) years of related experience, including: Three (3) years of management Two (2) years of experience in strategic planning and business development. Three (3) years of experience in working in a complex healthcare or health education setting with the ability to handle multiple complex projects with changing deadlines and priorities Excellent verbal and writing communication skills, and knowledge and understanding of best practices in data analytics, market trends, and key indicator material Experience working effectively with internal and external clients including presentation skills Successful record of leading groups through strategic change with positive results, and personnel oversight Proficiency in market/competitive analysis, financial analysis, issue identification, and business case development Proficiency with Tableau and BI tools Proficiency with Spatial Analytics (ESRI ArcGIS preferred) Regulatory experience, primarily in Certificate of Need in Virginia Ability to collaborate and influence, project confidence, identify organizational needs, and convincingly present statistical information, analysis and recommendations Experience PREFERRED Seven (7) years of business development and data validation for related projects Progressively more responsible roles in an academic healthcare setting Education/training REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or related field from an accredited program Education/training PREFERRED: Master's Degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or related field from an accredited program Independent action(s) required: Requires a high degree of self-direction and ability to structure and complete tasks independently and under time sensitive and ever changing deadlines. Must be able to lead multidisciplinary project teams and manage direct reports. Anticipate and determine data that may be needed to support a project and how to best gather the data. Complex data analytics capabilities required in order to properly assess data, produce reports and develop recommendations. Build relationship across the organization to support productive project work Synthesize analysis and create presentations and exhibits Requires critical and creative thinking skills Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): Directly supervises Strategic Analytics team as assigned, including the Manager of Business Development and Senior Business Development Associate, and analysts. Manage regular reporting processes to ensure reliable and regular reporting Train managers and analysts as needed Complete performance evaluations and annual reviews Additional position requirements: While the job is generally Monday-Friday, 8 AM 5 PM, work may be necessary on evenings and weekends, as well as travel to offsite and out-of-state locations.
