Job Description and Duties

Are you looking to gain valuable skills and pursue a rewarding career as an environmental scientist within the California Department of Fish and Wildlife Central Region (Region 4) CEQA Program?


This exciting position will help to implement the Department's Responsible and Trustee Agency mandates under CEQA. Use your biological and analytical skills to assist our partner Lead Agency's with the development of their project's CEQA documents, including providing valuable input into the CEQA early consultation process, responding to Notice's of Preparation, and analyzing and providing comments on Initial Study's and Draft Environmental Impact Reports. Work with a team of highly skilled professionals on these duties within Region 4 (e.g., Fresno, Monterey, and San Benito Counties). These ecologically rich counties possess a wide range of habitats to help you develop new skills or strengthen your existing skills with many plant and animal species and habitats. You will provide input on a wide range of project types including various development, restoration, and planning projects. Help shape avoidance, minimization, and mitigation measures for projects in these beautiful counties in central California.

Working Conditions

The position requires the use of a computer for several hours each day. Work is primarily conducted from an office location however occasional field work will be required. A partial telework schedule may be considered, following initial introduction time in the position. Field work may include unusual and/or long hours or overnight travel; accessing habitat conditions in adverse weather or terrain; driving a State vehicle to locations requiring three or more-hour drives; and/or wearing a prescribed CDFW uniform. A valid California driver license is required to drive to meetings and field sites. The duty station is currently based in Fresno, but duty stations in Monterey may be considered if space is available. The position will need to report to the Fresno office 2-4 days per month for program and unit meetings.
